A poetic piece of time travel – Anne Weber’s new book inter- twines the author’s family history with the history of German thought.
Anne Weber goes on a journey of discovery, exploring the strange and fascinating world of her grandfather, Florens Christian Rang, as well as the tribulations and triumphs of the era. Rang – referred to as Sanderling in the book – was a jurist, a vicar in two villages near Poznán, a philosopher and writer. He was in correspondence with Hugo von Hofmannsthal, a friend of Martin Buber’s and Walter Benjamin’s. But Weber’s journey into her great-grandfather’s story necessitates a confrontation with the terrible German past – and her family’s past – as it continued after Sanderling’s death.
AHNEN (Forefathers) is a poetic, reflective piece of time travel, discussing longing and pain in past and present alike.
“Ahead of us lies the road into the past. This book is that road.” Anne Weber
“Tremendously graceful, wryly self- deprecating but not coquettish, a great deal of wit and irony, extremely intelligent, interesting and lively.”
Sylvia Schwab, Hessischer Rundfunk, on Luft und Liebe
