About Klaus Reichert
Klaus Reichert, born in 1938, is a literary scholar, author, translator and editor. He worked at the publishing houses Insel and Suhrkamp from 1964 to 68, from 1975 to 2003 he was a professor of English and American literature at Frankfurt University. In 1993, he founded the 'Zentrum zur Erforschung der Frühen Neuzeit'. He was the president of the German Academy of Language and Poetry from 2002-2011.
He has written books on Shakespeare, Joyce, modern literature and on the history and theory of translation, published three volumes of poetry and a desert diary. His translations include Shakespeare, Lewis Carroll, Joyce, John Cage and the Song of Solomon. He edited the German edition of James Joyce’s complete works and has edited the works of Virginia Woolf for Fischer Verlag since 1989. S. Fischer published his prose translation of Shakespeare’s sonnets.His most recent books with S. Fischer include Türkische Tagebücher: Reisen in ein unentdecktes Land (2011).
