Right against Right

  • The annual documentation of how the judiciary deals with right-wing extremism
  • With contributions from law professor Katrin Höffler, victim advocate Onur Özata, federal commissioner against anti-Romani sentiment Mehmet Gürcan Daimaguler, and law professor Anna Katharina Mangold

How determined are politicians and the judiciary in confronting the growing threat from the right?
For the fourth time already, the Recht gegen rechts (Lawyers against the Right) Report uncovers extreme right-wing tendencies in the judiciary. In what areas does the judiciary insufficiently use its tools to defend democracy and diversity? What is it doing to protect those who do a great deal for our civil society? More than 30 well-known authors describe the most important cases from the past year. An analysis that goes on the offensive against the failure of the judiciary and a vital chronicle of successful legal counter-strategies.
The report addresses the following topics: The Itzehoer concentration camp trial. Sexism in the judiciary. The excessive actions of the State against the “Klimakleber” (climate gluers). The trivialization of the neo-Nazi legend of an Allied "bomb holocaust" by the Saxon judiciary. With contributions from law professor Katrin Höffler, victim advocate Onur Özata, federal commissioner against anti-Romani sentiment Mehmet Gürcan Daimaguler, and law professor Anna Katharina Mangold.
The report is edited by Nele Austermann, Andreas Fischer-Lescano, Heike Kleffner, Kati Lang, Maximilian Pichl, Ronen Steinke, and Tore Vetter. The editors are journalists and discerning lawyers who are guided by one fundamental principle: right-wing extremists see the law as the arena of their political struggles and try to exploit it for their own purposes. If all these attempts are documented and evaluated, then an important step will have been taken in the defense of democracy.
