The Telephonist – The Murderer's Message

  • The first exciting case for the telephonist Alma Täuber
  • Atmospherically irridescent, sophisticated, and enthralling: Set in Baden-Baden in the 1920s

Alma Täuber investigates between illustrious spa guests and illegal casinos – the first case for the telephonist.

Baden-Baden, 1922. Telephonist Alma Täuber loves her work, which she masters through skill and energy. Together with her best friend Emmi, she enjoys being free and carefree, and leading a self-determined life.
When Alma happens to overhear part of a conversation while connecting a call, she is captivated by the voice of the caller, who speaks of a job carried out 'in the colonnades'. Alma looks into the matter and discovers that a woman has been found murdered there. But the police do not believe that there is any connection between the murder and the call - apart from Inspector Ludwig Schiller.
Bold and decisive, Alma does not allow herself to be sidetracked and, together with Schiller, she moves between fashionable spa hotels and illegal casinos in search of the murderer.

A photo of her grandmother sitting in front of a switchboard with headphones on had already appealed to Regine Bott as a child. She first encountered the term "The Telephonist" back then, and the profession of telephone operator never left her. However, Regine Bott only met Dorothea Böhme decades later. And lo and behold, Dorothea's grandmother's life also provided plenty of material for a novel, as she turned the gender roles of the time upside down. The idea of writing a series together as Charlotte Blum about the telephonist Alma Täuber and her unconventional friend Emmi was born. The two authors not only write together, but also regularly perform together on a reading stage. They live with their families in Stuttgart and Kornwestheim.
