S. Fischer relocates headquarters to Berlin

Frankfurt am Main/Berlin, June 2026

S. Fischer Verlage will begin relocating its headquarters from Frankfurt am Main to Berlin in the summer of 2027. With this move, one of Germany’s most traditional and renowned book publishers is returning to its place of origin while strategically positioning itself for the future.

All of S. Fischer’s editorial directors are already based in the capital. In the future, the publisher’s editorial and market-oriented divisions will be consolidated in Berlin. In addition to management, this includes, in particular, marketing, sales, and the press and events departments. This will shorten decision-making processes, intensify collaboration between editorial and marketing, and strengthen the publisher’s presence in Berlin’s culturally and socially vibrant environment.

“S. Fischer is a publishing house with a long and distinguished history. It is our responsibility to preserve this legacy while actively shaping the future,” says Christina Dohmann, CEO of S. Fischer Verlage. “Samuel Fischer founded this publishing house in Berlin around 140 years ago and led it to great success with his insatiable cultural curiosity, his publishing courage, and his discerning, progressive mind. We feel deeply committed to this spirit. For us, the return to Berlin is therefore both a point of connection and a new beginning; it allows us to continue the history of S. Fischer Verlage right where the important debates about the future of our free and democratic society are being held today and where answers to the
pressing questions of our time must be found.”

Frankfurt remains an important place for the publishing house. In addition to the Frankfurt editorial department, the business divisions will also continue to operate from the Frankfurt location.
“As the city of publishing’s rebirth, Frankfurt belongs to S. Fischer; the publishing house owes a great deal to this city,” says Christina Dohmann. “Our decision to move to Berlin is not a decision against Frankfurt. Berlin will be our headquarters in the future, but Frankfurt remains an important anchor.”

The aim of this measure is to strengthen the publishing house’s economic and publishing sustainability. All employees will be offered the opportunity to relocate to Berlin. A decision on the exact location in Berlin will be made in the near future.
