The cozy village of Björkberg lies in the middle of the deep forests of the province of Värmland. There are few people here, but lots of moose and countless lakes – and a shot elementary school teacher. Was it really just a hunting accident? Ebba Lorenz, a woman from Hamburg who is spending the summer in her Swedish great-grandmother's red cottage, begins to ask around in Björkberg. But Detective Ole Lund, who was transferred from the big city to the countryside a few weeks ago, is not thrilled that Ebba is sticking her nose into his case. When another dead body turns up at the midsummer festival, it becomes clear that idyllic Björkberg has some dark secrets. And Ebba and Ole are more likely to uncover them if they investigate together.
