  • The story of two Jewish sisters who embark on a new life in New York after fleeing Germany in 1939

Sometimes love makes us blind, and sometimes it teaches us to see.

1939: Hannah and Ada Rosenbaum manage to leave Germany for New York on one of the last ships out. While Hannah dreams of becoming a doctor, her sister Ada is pregnant and concealing the name of the child's father. Shortly after they arrive in New York, Ada gives birth to a daughter - much too early. Hannah can only protect her niece from certain death by entrusting her to the care of the famous Martin A. Couney, who has taken on the task of looking after premature infants - a controversial untertaking. While Hannah fears for the life of her niece for weeks, she can't help admiring Mr. Couney's work. When he offers her a job in his hospital, she grabs the chance - and gets closer to fulfilling her dream, bit by bit.

Eva Neiss
