Kissing - A Touching Form of Communication

“Kisses are the remnants of paradise.” Joseph Conrad

There is the romantic kiss, the brotherly kiss, the goodbye kiss, the movie kiss, the goodnight kiss - what do all these kisses have in common?

Kissing is an act of communication, says Hektor Haarkötter. Originally, not everyone kissed, and in many parts of the world kissing is still frowned upon. Kissing is the Indo-European culture's gift to the world. In his book, Haarkötter develops a small theory of kissing derived from this history: oral communication without words, closer to thinking than speaking, an almost philosophical activity! It is only with the upcoming of global media that kissing has become a worldwide phenomenon, but the media could aso be the downfall of kissing. It is time to explore this most romantic of touch of all and unlock its secrets.
