Samantha, a London lawyer, learns of her great-grandfather's second family in the Cotswolds. While searching for traces of the past, Samantha's car breaks down and William, the landlord of the Castle Inn, comes to her aid, but otherwise shows her his grumpy side. Clementine, the tea room owner who sent the letter to her newly discovered relative, tells Samantha more about her great-grandfather's dangerous double life.
