Souls in the Fire

Anyone can be suspected, everyone is interrogated, anyone can burn. Germany is living in fear. In 1626 that fear is of the devil, magic and witchcraft. It is a battle between good and evil, but also a struggle for power. The scheming Bishop of Bamberg wants to show the free citizens of the city who’s boss. His targets, alongside the ordinary people, are the city’s councillors. They are interrogated and condemned. And they are put to the stake.

The apothecary’s daughter Johanna takes us to a world where witch-hunting is rife. She too runs the risk of accusation, a vicious circle from which there is no escape. Will she be able to flee to the freedom of Amsterdam? Will the King and the Pope finally come to the aid of the citizens of Bamberg, and put an end to the burning?
